My favorite place as a kid, still as good as I remember. I take my own kids now for amazing donuts and "windmill cookies".
Whenever I am visiting family in northern New Jersey I have to stop in the Holland American Bakery to get some sweets. But it is so hard to just pick up a cake or pie, I need a little more. My grandson's like the brownies, my son-in-law likes the chocolate chip cookies, and the crumb cake is just like I had as a young girl. We also picked up a cake, chocolate with chocolate buttercream, so good. And the service you get in there is also excellent.
The bakery store also offers many other baked goods, and in addition to that, there are teas, and Dutch pottery and porcelain goods, from tea and coffee sets to knickknacks and collectibles, and many other items. This is a real treat to go there!
Everything there is great. The absolute best linzer tarts that I have ever had! Huge selection of almond desserts that are great as well. If you like licorice, they have a large assortment, but be careful some are very pungent and some are salty. I have never been let down by any of their products. Definitely check it out!
The Holland American Bakery is one of my all-time favorites! The staff are super-friendly and ready and willing to answer questions and make certain the customer is satisfied. I go there specifically for their Honey Raisin Cake, and for the Boter Koek (Butter Cake) which is made with almond paste in addition to the butter... it is a decadent indulgence I allow myself once in a great while, and is so, so very, very good!
A must go too. Bakery has great cakes,breads.cookie,coffee and egg sandwiches. Staff is very nice. A little bit of the bakeing from the old world. Delicious! Almond horse shoe!
